LONDON (AP) — The U.S. Marshals Service announced on Thursday that a 16-year-old boy has been apprehended in relation to a tragic shooting incident at a bustling subway station in New York City during rush hour earlier this week.
This teenager is one of three alleged shooters who were being sought for their involvement in the shooting that occurred on February 13. Authorities have revealed that the incident resulted from a dispute between two rival gangs who boarded the same train at different stations.
The distressing incident unfolded as the train arrived at an elevated station in the Bronx shortly before 5 p.m. The initial gunshots rang out, causing panic among passengers who hurriedly fled the scene. Law enforcement officers later discovered a total of 19 shell casings, three of which were found within one of the subway cars. Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny of the New York Police Department revealed these details earlier this week.
Tragically, the shooting claimed the life of Obed Beltran-Sanchez, a 35-year-old man who was fatally shot in the chest. Additionally, five other individuals, whose ages range from 14 to 71, sustained injuries during the incident.
Working in collaboration with the New York Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service and a regional fugitive task force successfully apprehended the 16-year-old suspect at approximately 11 a.m. in the Bronx. The teenager is currently in custody, awaiting formal charges.
