Authorities have confirmed the identity of the body discovered in the Neponset River on Tuesday as that of John Wesley Young III, a Boston resident who had been reported missing since December last year.

The Boston Police Department responded to a call regarding a partially submerged body at the Neponset Valley Yacht Club on Granite Avenue in Milton. Divers were able to recover the body of an adult male.

On Thursday, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey announced that the medical examiner has positively identified the body as that of John Wesley Young III, who was from Boston.

“The cause and manner of death are still undetermined at this time,” said David Traub, a spokesperson for the Norfolk DA’s office.

The Boston Police Department had issued a missing persons alert for Young in January, as his family had not seen him since November the previous year.
