Accident – Death – Obituary News : Reacting to recent attacks on Indian students in the US, the White House has firmly asserted that violence based on race, gender, or any other factor is completely unacceptable in the United States. In a press briefing held on Thursday, John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, highlighted that President Joe Biden and his administration are diligently working to prevent and disrupt such attacks.
Addressing concerns among parents about sending their children to the US, Kirby emphasized, “There’s no excuse for violence, certainly based on race or gender or religion or any other factor. That’s just unacceptable here in the United States, and the President and his administration have been working very, very hard to make sure we’re doing everything we can to work with state and local authorities to try to thwart and disrupt those kinds of attacks and make it clear to anybody who might consider them that they’ll be held properly accountable.”
This statement comes in the wake of a sudden surge in attacks and deaths of Indians and Indian-Americans in the United States. On February 7, a 41-year-old Indian-origin man, Vivek Taneja, tragically passed away after sustaining life-threatening injuries from an assault in downtown Washington. The Metropolitan Police Department’s official release mentioned that the incident occurred on February 2 at around 2:00 a.m. Taneja was swiftly taken to the hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he succumbed to them four days later. The Metropolitan Police in Washington, DC, is actively seeking public assistance in identifying and locating the suspect involved.
Additionally, another Indian student, Syed Mazahir Ali, faced a brutal attack in Chicago on February 4. The Indian Consulate in Chicago confirmed its contact with Ali and his wife in India, providing necessary assistance and support. Disturbing videos circulating on social media depicted Ali bleeding profusely as he described the horrifying incident. CCTV footage of the attack showed three individuals chasing Ali through the streets of Chicago.
Tragedy struck again earlier this month when Shreyas Reddy, an Indian student in Cincinnati, Ohio, was found dead. The cause of his death remains unknown. Reddy was enrolled at the Linder School of Business. Similarly, on January 30, Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University, was discovered dead after being reported missing for several days, according to the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s office.
In a separate incident, Vivek Saini, another Indian student, was brutally killed by a homeless man inside a store in Lithonia, Georgia. A video capturing the incident went viral on social media, although the exact date of the incident has not been confirmed.
These distressing incidents have raised concerns among Indian students and their families, prompting global attention. The White House’s strong condemnation of such violence and their commitment to working closely with local and state authorities to combat these attacks is a reassuring response. President Joe Biden’s administration is actively striving to ensure the safety and security of all individuals, regardless of their race, gender, or religion, within the United States.
