PHOENIX – Family members have identified the man whose body was found floating in a Phoenix canal on February 12. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Gregory Woodard, whose mother is now seeking answers regarding his untimely demise.
Melanie Woodard, the mother of Gregory Woodard, expressed her distress, saying, “What happened to my son? That’s what I want to know.”
Concerns arose when Melanie received a call on February 5, informing her that Gregory failed to show up for work. Consequently, a missing persons report was filed with the Scottsdale Police. Desperate for answers, Melanie contacted various hospitals in Phoenix and surrounding cities, but her efforts were in vain.
Man found dead in Phoenix canal identified by family
The man, identified by family as 28-year-old Gregory Woodard, was found dead in the area of 58th Way and Indian School Road. FOX 10’s Lindsey Ragas reports.
After a series of interactions with the police, Melanie received a call on Monday confirming the discovery of Gregory’s body in the Phoenix canal. Melanie strongly believes that her son’s body had been in the canal for at least seven days.
Expressing her confusion and disbelief, Melanie said, “There is no rationale for Gregory to walk to that canal and jump in. It just makes no sense.”
Gregory Woodard recently relocated from Texas to Surprise, Arizona in August. Three months ago, he moved to Scottsdale to be closer to his workplace. Woodard had been working as a security guard at Barstool Scottsdale for the past six months.
Reflecting on her son’s accomplishments, Melanie stated, “I felt like he was successful, and I told him that I love him and I am proud of him for how far he’s come on his own.”
Melanie, along with Woodard’s younger brother, will deeply miss Gregory’s affectionate and easygoing personality.
“I’m going to miss my son because I loved my son,” said Melanie.
While the cause of Gregory Woodard’s death has not been disclosed, Scottsdale Police officials have assured that foul play is not suspected.
