A 5-year-old boy from Ohio was reported missing on Wednesday after his guardian informed the Columbus police that his wife had made a chilling statement about their foster child’s well-being. An Amber Alert was promptly issued for 5-year-old Darnell Taylor, following a distress call made by a man identified as Darnell’s foster father. The man informed the dispatchers that his wife had allegedly killed the child, according to an affidavit obtained by local NBC affiliate WCMH.
The foster father revealed that his wife, Pammy Maye, woke him up with statements that indicated harm had come to their foster child, Darnell. Columbus police shared this information on their Facebook page. The man then proceeded to search their residence before contacting emergency services. During the 911 call, he reported that his wife claimed their son was no longer alive. Shockingly, Maye fled their home while the call was in progress, as stated in the affidavit.
The foster dad informed the police that Maye left their home abruptly in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. After almost three hours, law enforcement located the abandoned vehicle in Brooklyn, Ohio. As of Thursday evening, Maye had not been apprehended but faces charges of kidnapping and child endangerment, according to court records reviewed by HuffPost.
During a press conference held on Thursday, Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant made a heartfelt plea to Maye, urging her to come forward with information about Darnell’s whereabouts. “Pammy, if you’re watching this, could you please reach out and contact us? We need to know that Darnell is safe. We are asking you, Pammy, and we need to know you’re safe,” pleaded Bryant. The police chief also mentioned that Maye’s husband is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
