Man in Custody in Connection with Death of Cortavius Ates, Says Bibb County Sheriff’s Office

UPDATE (2/15): The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has announced that a man is now in custody in connection with the death of Cortavius Ates.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, multiple units including the Gang Unit, Strategic Intelligence Unit, Drug Unit, Special Response Team, and the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office collaborated to apprehend 33-year-old Kendarrious Rayshun Cone.

Cone was located and taken into custody in Twiggs County before being transported back to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Headquarters. Following further investigation, he was subsequently transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Officials have charged Cone with murder, aggravated assault, and conspiracy to distribute marijuana. He is currently being held without bond.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into a death that occurred near the intersection of Jeffersonville Road and Roseview Drive on Saturday.

According to reports, the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center received a call at 4:47 p.m. reporting gunshots in the vicinity.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, discovered an unresponsive 25-year-old male who has now been identified as Cortavius Hassan Ates. Ates was found with a gunshot wound and tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.

The family of the deceased has been duly notified of the tragic incident.
