Accident – Death – Obituary News : San Mateo Police Department

The San Mateo Police Department (SMPD) confirmed on Friday that a family of four was tragically killed in a murder-suicide incident. Anand Sujith Henry, an Indian-origin techie, is suspected of killing his wife and four-year-old twins before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The bodies of the entire Indian-origin American family were discovered by the police in their USD 2.1 million home in San Mateo, California.

According to authorities, 42-year-old Henry and his 40-year-old wife were found dead with gunshot wounds inside their bathroom, while the bodies of their twin sons were recovered from the bedroom.

“At this time, the next of kin have been informed and we can now confirm the identities as Anand Henry (father), Alice Benziger (mother), and their minor twin boys. The adults’ identities have been verified through fingerprints, and the boys have been identified through familial visual identification. Both Henry and Benziger died from gunshot wounds. Based on the joint investigation by the San Mateo Police Department, the San Mateo County Crime Lab, and the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office, Anand Henry has been identified as the suspect,” stated the SMPD.

The police investigation revealed no prior history of violence at the couple’s residence. “After unsuccessful attempts to reach the family over the weekend, our department was contacted. It is believed that this incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, February 10, 2024,” read the statement released by the police.

Authorities discovered a legally registered 9mm handgun belonging to Henry on the bathroom floor, where both adults’ bodies were found. The investigation determined that Benziger succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while Henry died from a single gunshot wound. The cause of death for the twin boys is still pending pathology, but it has been confirmed that they did not die from gunfire or show signs of bodily trauma. The motive for this tragic incident is still under investigation. The SMPD emphasized the importance of domestic violence and mental health resources, urging the community to seek help and assistance to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The United States has witnessed a rise in mysterious deaths of Indian-origin students and citizens. Addressing this concerning issue, John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, stated, “There is absolutely no excuse for violence based on race, gender, religion, or any other factor. Such acts are completely unacceptable in the United States.”

Increased Concern for Safety

The recent murder-suicide of the Indian-origin family in San Mateo has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of individuals within the Indian community living in the United States. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing mental health issues and domestic violence, as well as the need for accessible resources and support systems.

Supporting Domestic Violence and Mental Health

Following this tragic event, it is vital to raise awareness about domestic violence and mental health resources. Organizations and individuals should work together to provide assistance and support to those who may be experiencing such challenges. By fostering a safe and compassionate environment, we can prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Government Response

The National Security Council in the White House expressed its condemnation of violence based on any discriminatory factors. The government emphasizes the need for inclusivity and respect for all individuals, regardless of their race, gender, religion, or any other characteristic.

As investigations continue into the motive behind this devastating murder-suicide, the community mourns the loss of the Henry family and seeks ways to prevent such tragedies in the future.
