A 25-year-old youth has been apprehended by the Chennai police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on charges of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. The suspect, identified as Sadhasivam from Krishnagiri, was employed in Chennai and had reportedly developed a friendship with the victim when she used to go to school.
The incident
On January 25, the girl left for school as usual but did not return home, raising concerns among her family members. Upon investigation, the girl’s mother discovered that some of her clothes were missing from their residence, prompting her to file a complaint with the police.
Police intervention and arrest
The girl’s mother suspected the involvement of a youth whom her daughter had been close to and informed the police accordingly. Acting swiftly, the authorities traced the youth’s mobile network and located the couple in Salem. The police successfully apprehended them and brought them back to Chennai.
Legal action and current situation
Sadhasivam has been charged under Sections 366 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 5(l) and 6 of the POCSO Act. To ensure the victim’s well-being and safety, she was immediately subjected to a medical examination. Currently, she has been placed in a children’s home.
