Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Bend Police have announced the arrest of a 48-year-old Uber driver, Rockey Heath of La Pine, on suspicion of kidnapping. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a woman reported that she had used the Uber app to order a ride to her Bend home. However, instead of taking her home, the driver drove her around for approximately 25 to 30 minutes.

The victim had requested to be taken to her house, which was only a five-minute drive from the pickup location. The Uber driver, identified as Rocky Heath, canceled the ride at 6:29 p.m. and continued driving the woman despite her repeated requests to be taken home. After half an hour, he finally dropped her off at her residence.

Police took immediate action, conducting a search for Heath’s vehicle in the area. At around 11:18 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of NW Minnesota Ave and NE Lava Rd, arresting Heath. He was then booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of second-degree kidnapping and second-degree disorderly conduct.

The vehicle involved in the incident, a 2023 Polestar 2, was towed. Bend Police also reported the allegations to Uber. The investigation is ongoing.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety when using ride-sharing services. Authorities urge passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or concerning behavior to the appropriate authorities.

Uber has not made an official statement regarding the incident at this time.
