INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been charged after he reportedly raped a minor while in a home on the northwest side of Indianapolis earlier this month.

According to court documents filed on Tuesday in Marion County, Robert Lee was arrested and charged with one count of rape, a Level 3 felony, and three counts of criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony.

On Sunday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a child molestation investigation at a home in the 8200 block of Maple Leaf Ct. The 911 caller was identified as a 16-year-old victim.

When the officer arrived at the home, the 16-year-old instructed him to knock on the front door. However, no one answered. The officer then called the 16-year-old back and obtained the door code. It was later discovered that Lee was preventing a family member of the 16-year-old from reaching the door.

Upon entering the home, the officer immediately detained Lee in handcuffs. A family member informed the police that she was called to the house after hearing that the 16-year-old had been “inappropriately touched” by Lee.

The family member initially believed Lee was asleep in the front room. However, when she attempted to open the door after hearing a knock, Lee jumped up and blocked her path. Lee refused to let her open the door, prompting the officer to enter the house alone.

Further investigation revealed that the 16-year-old had been raped by Lee earlier that morning. The documents stated that Lee entered the room where she was sleeping after picking the lock. He then lay down beside her and proceeded to lick her in a sexual manner without her consent. The 16-year-old pretended to be asleep out of fear.

After the incident, the 16-year-old went to the bathroom and locked herself in another bedroom where her siblings were sleeping. She contacted her family members about the incident and eventually called the police, as Lee began banging on the bedroom door.

The 16-year-old informed the police that Lee, who was a father figure to her, had never climbed into bed with her before and that his behavior was abnormal. The documents indicated that Lee did not reside in the home but was supposed to check in with the family that day.

At 6:14 a.m., a family member arrived at the home and at 6:27 a.m., Lee was spotted peeping through the front window when officers arrived. Lee quickly retreated and officers entered the house at 6:32 a.m.

This incident highlights the importance of reporting cases of sexual assault promptly and seeking help from law enforcement. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding this case or other potential victims to come forward.

If convicted, Lee could face severe penalties, including imprisonment and registration as a sex offender. The court will determine the appropriate punishment based on the evidence presented and the severity of the crimes committed.
