And when I hit him from behind, I either jarred the gun out of his hand or out of his sleeve, cause as I’m taking him down to the ground, I see the gun on the ground.”

According to Contreras, he was the first to tackle the suspect, and another “good Samaritan” joined him in keeping the suspect pinned to the ground until the arrival of the police. Despite the struggle feeling like a long time, it lasted only 15 to 30 seconds before law enforcement intervened.

“I’m standing there for about a minute or two, and me and the cops didn’t even have one or two words. Once they had him and got him cuffed, I sat there for two minutes with all my three daughters, and then we just walked away, headed towards our car,” Contreras recounted.

Contreras clarified that he did not witness the suspect firing the gun but instead acted purely on instinct. His daughter, Alyssa Marsh-Contreras, expressed her concern for her father’s safety during the chaotic incident. She stood by his side, ensuring that his belongings, including his hat, phone, and wallet, remained secure throughout the ordeal.
