Austin, Texas – In a tragic incident on Tuesday evening, a car crashed into the emergency room of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, resulting in the death of one person and leaving five others injured. According to first responders, the driver of the vehicle, 57-year-old Michelle Holloway, lost her life in the accident. The authorities have stated that there is no indication that the incident was intentional or the result of a medical episode.

Michelle Holloway was an employee with the Driver License Division at the Texas Department of Public Safety, as confirmed by the department.

While the medical status of the two children injured in the crash remains unknown, Austin Police Department has not provided any updates at this time.

St. David’s spokesperson has reported that three team members received minor injuries during the incident.

Injured Individuals and Medical Care

Austin-Travis County EMS has reported that four of the injured individuals were transferred to other medical facilities for further treatment. Eight people were present in the emergency room at the time of the crash, and five of them were moved to other facilities. The conditions of these individuals are currently unknown.

The injured individuals, including one adult and two children, were taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center. One child is in critical condition, while the other adult and child are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Another adult was taken to Round Rock Medical Center and is considered to be in critical condition, according to ATCEMS.

The Austin Fire Department received the emergency call at around 5:36 p.m., and a hazmat task force was deployed to the crash site.

Reactions from Leaders

Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his support for the victims and their loved ones in a tweet, stating, “I’ve spoken with Mayor Watson about the tragic accident at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center & offered Texas’ full support. State personnel are working closely with local officials to ensure Austin has no unmet needs. Cecilia & I pray for the victims & their loved ones.”

Mayor Pro Tem Leslie Pool, who represents the district where the hospital is located, also provided a statement, expressing gratitude for the first responders’ quick response and their assistance in managing the scene and redirecting patients to other facilities. Pool assured that she is staying connected with the communications and emergency personnel as the situation continues to unfold.
