The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday afternoon that the body discovered by rangers from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been identified as Jeffrey Haymons, a 59-year-old man from Bulloch County. Haymons had been reported missing since February 2.
According to a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office, rangers from the DNR made the heartbreaking discovery of Haymons’ body in the Ogeechee River near Williams Landing on Thursday morning. It was on Saturday, February 3, when Haymons’ white 2000 Ford Expedition was found abandoned at Williams Landing, situated at the Ogeechee River in northern Bulloch County, specifically off Old River Road North and Macedonia Road.
The body recovered from the river was later confirmed to be that of Jeffrey Haymons.
The Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple other agencies, had been tirelessly conducting extensive searches by water, land, and air in the area of Williams Landing since Haymons was reported missing. These combined efforts were aimed at locating any signs of the missing man.
As part of the ongoing investigation, Haymons’ body will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab in Savannah, where a thorough autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of his unfortunate demise.
Sheriff Noel Brown expressed his gratitude towards the DNR, Bulloch County Public Safety, and Bulloch County EMS for their unwavering support during this difficult time. Sheriff Brown also extended special thanks to the Burke County Dive Team, who bravely performed an underwater search despite the challenging and hazardous conditions.
