The arrest comes after a thorough investigation conducted by law enforcement agencies. Franklin County District Attorney Brandon Jones has confirmed that Marnell has been charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a child.

The incident leading to the arrest took place on January 14 when Franklin County sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical call at a residence in Richmond. Upon arrival, the deputies discovered an unresponsive infant. They immediately initiated life-saving measures and rushed the baby to an Ottawa hospital. The infant was later identified as Waylon S. Marnell, who was just one month old at the time.

Due to the critical condition of the child, Waylon was transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the KBI was asked to assist in the investigation on January 17.

Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical professionals, Waylon’s condition deteriorated, and he was removed from life support on January 28. The infant passed away around 3 p.m. that day.

Based on the findings of the investigation, both KBI agents and Franklin County deputies concluded that Jason Marnell was responsible for the injuries that ultimately led to the tragic death of his son.

Marnell appeared in court for the first time on Thursday and is currently being held in the Franklin County jail. As the investigation continues, authorities are diligently working to gather all the necessary evidence and ensure justice is served.

As the community mourns the loss of Waylon S. Marnell, the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues. Law enforcement officials are determined to uncover the truth and ensure that justice is served for the innocent life lost.
