The video above provides a previous report on the incident.

According to authorities, Courtlyn Thomas has been charged with murder, while Tamia Thibeaux faces a tampering with evidence charge.

The tragic shooting occurred on June 15, 2023, at approximately 5:30 a.m., following a domestic altercation at the off-campus apartments of The Gates of Prairie View.

The victim, identified as Jazymyn Bill, encountered her friend involved in a physical fight with her boyfriend in the parking lot of the complex. Bill attempted to intervene, seeking assistance from her boyfriend, an off-duty security guard.

Unfortunately, the situation escalated when an argument broke out between Bill’s boyfriend and the friend’s boyfriend. The assailant, accused of assaulting his girlfriend, brandished a firearm and opened fire, striking the off-duty security guard in the buttocks. In response, Bill’s boyfriend retrieved his own weapon and returned fire, ultimately hitting the assailant in the chest.

Tragically, amidst the chaotic exchange of gunfire, Jazymyn Bill was struck by a stray bullet and was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, an innocent bystander sustained a graze wound from another stray bullet.

Due to the presence of multiple armed individuals, it remains unclear who fired the fatal shot that claimed Jazymyn Bill’s life.

All three individuals who sustained injuries were immediately transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The Prairie View A&M University Police Department reported that two suspects fled the scene before their arrival, eventually being apprehended at Buc-ee’s on Highway 290, approximately 8 miles away.

While officials have not provided specific details regarding the involvement of the two individuals now in custody, the investigation is ongoing.
