WILMINGTON, Delaware (WPVI) — Authorities have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 59-year-old woman who was found fatally stabbed in Kosciuszko Park, Wilmington, Delaware over the weekend.
The gruesome discovery was made on Sunday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the 600 block of South Franklin Street. Police were alerted to the presence of a body at the center of the park.
The victim has been identified as Barbara Williams, a 59-year-old woman. Authorities revealed that the deadly stabbing had taken place inside a residence located in the 1300 block of Lancaster Avenue before the victim’s remains were brought to the park.
On Tuesday, authorities arrested Steven Byrd, a 35-year-old man, in connection with the murder. Byrd has been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence. He appeared before a judge and is currently being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a cash-only bail amounting to $2,368,172.
Another suspect, Joseph Welsh, 29, was also arrested on Tuesday. Welsh is accused of assisting Byrd in disposing of the victim’s remains. He has been charged with tampering with evidence and conspiracy. Welsh is currently held on $10,000 secured bail.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the stabbing. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be revealed as the case progresses.
