Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A Deltona resident was apprehended on Wednesday after allegedly making threats to shoot a student driver and their father. The incident occurred in Volusia County, Florida, when the accused was reportedly angered by being cut off in traffic.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the confrontation took place at a Publix on Doyle Rd. in Deltona at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deputies were called to the scene to address the situation between the occupants of two vehicles.

The victim, who was in the passenger seat of a black Lexus, explained to the responding deputy that his daughter, who holds a learner’s permit, was driving at the time of the incident. The father-daughter duo was traveling northbound on Braddock Rd., approaching Doyle Rd., when the daughter mistakenly believed they had the right of way and entered the intersection.

Realizing the error, the father attempted to correct the situation by moving the vehicle off the road. Unfortunately, this maneuver resulted in cutting off a white SUV traveling eastbound on Doyle Rd.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 59-year-old Mark Vierra, was described by the victim as a middle-aged man wearing a Boston Bruins shirt. As the victim and his daughter tried to explain the mistake and requested Vierra to move along, he allegedly started yelling at them.

After briefly driving away, Vierra made a U-turn and blocked the victims with his SUV. He continued to shout at them and, at one point, allegedly threatened to shoot both the father and daughter while brandishing a pistol holstered on his person. Following the confrontation, Vierra drove away from the scene.

The incident left the student driver traumatized, expressing her reluctance to continue driving. The victims managed to provide deputies with Vierra’s SUV’s license plate information, leading them to his residence in Deltona. The SUV was found parked in the driveway.

Upon approaching the house, deputies encountered a man matching the victims’ description, wearing a Boston Bruins shirt. The man, identified as Mark Vierra, admitted to being involved in the altercation. During a pat-down, deputies discovered a black Ruger LCP pistol with a black holster in Vierra’s pocket.

Initially, Vierra denied having the gun on him during the incident. However, he later changed his statement, claiming that there was no way the victims could have seen it. Based on statements from the victims and a witness, Vierra was arrested on various charges, including two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm while committing a third-degree felony, and improper exhibition of a firearm.

Following his arrest, Vierra was booked into the Volusia County Jail shortly after midnight on Wednesday. He has since been released after posting a bond totaling $16,000.
