An 18-year-old girl, who was learning how to drive with her father, shared her terrifying experience of being threatened by a man with a gun during an apparent road rage incident, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Vierra was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, committing a third-degree felony with a weapon, and improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon following the incident that unfolded near the Publix at 915 Doyle Road in Deltona on Tuesday night, as stated in an arrest affidavit.

The 18-year-old girl, who was driving with her father to Publix, mistakenly cut off another driver while making a turn from Braddock Road onto Doyle Road, causing the other driver, identified as Vierra, to become agitated and resort to verbal threats.

According to the affidavit, Vierra became increasingly aggressive and even displayed a pistol, pointing it in the direction of the girl and her father. Despite the father’s attempts to diffuse the situation and remind Vierra that his daughter was a learner driver, Vierra continued to shout and intimidate them.

Vierra proceeded to make a U-turn, blocking the girl’s car, and issued further threats of shooting both her and her father before eventually driving away.

The traumatized 18-year-old girl revealed that the incident left her so frightened that she no longer wanted to drive.

Subsequently, deputies located Vierra’s residence, which matched the address on the registration of the Toyota involved in the incident. During the search, they discovered a black pistol in a holster attached to Vierra’s pants, according to the affidavit.

Upon being apprehended, Vierra initially denied having a gun during the incident, claiming he left it at home. However, he later changed his statement and admitted to having it during the confrontation, although he insisted that the girl and her father couldn’t have seen it.

Vierra was taken into custody and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail. He has since been released after posting a $16,000 bond.
