The Washoe County coroner has officially identified one of the two individuals who lost their lives in a tragic double homicide in a Stead home earlier this month. The victim has been identified as Justin Reid, a 39-year-old man. Justin Reid is also the father of the suspected shooter, 17-year-old Mashenka Reid, who is now facing murder charges. Mashenka Reid is also suspected of killing her younger brother during the same incident. The identity of the second victim remains unknown at this time.

Details emerge in north Reno double homicide

Further details are now emerging regarding the double homicide that occurred in north Reno on Friday afternoon. In an arrest report released by the Reno Police Department, it is stated that Mashenka Reid, the 17-year-old suspect, called 911 and confessed, stating “I just couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody” when asked about the incident.

Upon arrival at the scene on Silver Sky Parkway, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of Mashenka Reid’s father and younger brother inside an apartment. However, her sister was found alive in a locked bedroom after an officer forcefully entered the room.

The arrest report provides a timeline of events surrounding the double homicide. The first call reporting the shootings was made by a neighbor who heard muffled gunshots and cries for help. Subsequently, Mashenka Reid herself called 911 and admitted to shooting both her father and brother. She also disclosed that she dropped the gun, a Walther PPS, inside the apartment.

At approximately 4:17 p.m., the first officer arrived at the scene and detained Mashenka Reid while checking the welfare of others present in the apartment. Shortly after, the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) arrived and pronounced both the father and brother deceased.

Mashenka Reid was then taken to the main station of the Reno Police Department, where she was informed of her Miranda rights as a juvenile and given the opportunity to speak with law enforcement. However, she declined to provide any further statements.
