Accident – Death – Obituary News : Los Angeles murder spree

LOS ANGELES — Authorities announced on Tuesday that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with a series of shootings that resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a 14-year-old boy, in Southern California.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the killings, which occurred within a span of hours late Sunday night and early Monday morning in southeast Los Angeles County. The incidents took place in the cities of Bell, Cudahy, Huntington Park, and the Florence-Firestone area of South L.A. Law enforcement authorities have recovered a red Honda Pilot SUV believed to be connected to the murders.

Shortly after the homicides, investigators were able to identify the vehicle and its license plate number, which they promptly entered into a law enforcement database. This critical information led to a traffic stop in San Bernardino County, where one of the suspects was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies. The second suspect was apprehended after a SWAT team executed a search warrant at an undisclosed location, utilizing various investigative techniques.

During a news conference on Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Andrew Meyer identified the suspects as 42-year-old Gary Garcia and 20-year-old Wayne McNeely Timberland. Both individuals are believed to be members of a local gang, as stated by detectives involved in the investigation.

While the arrests have been made, homicide detectives suspect that a third individual involved in the murder spree may still be at large.

Captain Meyer informed reporters that the killings appear to be random acts of violence, stating, “It appears that this was a random murder spree.”

One of the shootings took place in Cudahy during the early morning hours of Monday, claiming the life of 14-year-old Javier Pedraza Jr. Another boy was also injured in the incident and is currently in stable condition after receiving medical treatment. The crime scene was located just outside the Ellen Ochoa Learning Center on Live Oak Street. In honor of Javier, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist with his funeral expenses.

The other homicides occurred in Bell at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, in Florence-Firestone shortly after midnight on Monday, and in Huntington Park just after 2:30 a.m. on Monday.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office has identified 24-year-old Kevin Parada as the victim killed in Bell. To support Parada’s funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been established. A vigil is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the 6000 block of Bear Avenue, where the shooting occurred.

Teresa, Parada’s mother, expressed that her son was at a friend’s house when the tragic incident took place.

The names of the other two deceased victims are being withheld by the medical examiner’s office until their families have been notified.

Anyone with information regarding these killings is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
