Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Parbhani district police have registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) against a group of suspects for assaulting and forcing two teenagers to chant religious slogans on Sunday evening. The suspects themselves recorded the videos and shared them on social media, causing serious outrage.
According to Parbhani Superintendent of Police Ravindersingh Pardeshi, there were two separate incidents where a common set of suspects assaulted and forced teens from a minority community to chant religious slogans. One of the accused has been arrested, and the police have launched a manhunt for his accomplices based on the information provided by him.
Identified as Vishal Nagre, a 20-year-old second-year nursing student, the arrested accused hails from Parbhani rural and is currently a resident of Parbhani town.
The New Mondha police, led by Inspector Samadhan Chavre, have booked the suspects for rioting, unlawful assembly, deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and more.
In the first incident, a 19-year-old engineering diploma student from Moha in Gangakhed tehsil was assaulted in a garden and forced to chant a religious slogan. In the second case, an 18-year-old fruit seller sitting on his cart was beaten up and forced to chant the same slogan. The suspects then turned the fruit seller’s cart upside down and fled.
Both incidents took place within a span of 30 minutes. The victims were targeted by a group of youths who covered their faces with scarves.
The police have urged people to abstain from such acts and have warned of stringent action. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected to be made.
