Pocahontas County, W.Va. (WTRF) – A tragic incident unfolded at a convenience store in Marlinton, West Virginia, on Monday night, resulting in the death of a young woman. The West Virginia State Police (WVSP) reported that the victim, identified as 21-year-old Camie Rider from Marlinton, was shot and fatally wounded.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on February 12, a distressing call reached Pocahontas 911, alerting authorities about a shooting incident at the Little General convenience store. Responding swiftly, Sgt. Massie of the WVSP Marlinton Detachment rushed to the scene. However, upon arrival, he discovered that the suspect had already fled.
The gravely injured Camie Rider was immediately rushed to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital but, tragically, she was pronounced dead. The community mourns the loss of this young life, taken far too soon.
Law enforcement officials swiftly identified the suspect as 23-year-old Mason Walker from Hillsboro, West Virginia. Thanks to the diligent efforts of CPL’s Miller, Wolford, and Stallings from the Elkins Detachment in Randolph County, Walker was swiftly located and apprehended.
As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Camie Rider was the girlfriend of the accused, Mason Walker. Tragically, it is believed that this fatal incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, highlighting the dire consequences of such conflicts.
