A 34-year-old man from Long Beach, identified as Cameron Chapman, tragically lost his life over the weekend in Riverside County after crashing into the side of a mountain while paragliding. The incident occurred near the 200 block of Soboba Road in Gilman Hot Springs, approximately 50 miles southeast of San Bernardino.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 9:39 a.m. on Sunday. Responding authorities discovered Chapman’s body about 1,000 feet up on the side of the San Jacinto Mountains. Firefighters and law enforcement personnel immediately initiated efforts to assist him, requesting a helicopter for an airlift. However, despite their best efforts, paramedics pronounced Chapman dead less than an hour later, as confirmed by the Riverside County Fire Department.

Jeremy Bishop, the owner of Soboba Flight Park, a facility that offers various recreational activities including paragliding, speed flying, powered paragliding, hiking, biking, and camping, stated that Chapman had been an experienced pilot with years of flying experience. However, on that fateful Sunday, Chapman was attempting “advanced maneuvers” when he collided with the side of the mountain.

The Long Beach Post reached out to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in San Jacinto for further details, but they did not respond at the time of reporting.
