Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man who was already facing multiple charges in connection with a fatal shooting in July has now been charged with murder in relation to a shooting that took place a month earlier. Calon Markus Hatchett, a 20-year-old individual, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a man in June.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on June 25 when a man and a woman were walking near the intersection of 21st Street East and Chicago Avenue South in Minneapolis. While passing by, they encountered a group of three males walking in the opposite direction. It was during this encounter that one of the males, identified as Hatchett, pulled out a gun and shot the man.

The victim, later identified as 26-year-old Ali Abdula Reed, collapsed immediately and tragically lost his life at the scene. The woman, realizing the danger, managed to flee while Hatchett and another individual from the group chased her and fired shots in her direction. Fortunately, she was able to escape unharmed.

Authorities investigating the incident confirmed through surveillance footage that Hatchett was responsible for the shot that killed Reed. Additionally, multiple discharged cartridge casings, including several 10 mm casings, were found at the scene.

In another disturbing incident that occurred on July 23, Hatchett was involved in a shooting at an apartment building in Minneapolis, where he shot two women, one of whom tragically succumbed to her injuries. Hatchett was subsequently arrested the following day. During his arrest, a 10 mm Glock was found in his backpack, and forensic analysis later confirmed that the casings recovered from the scene matched the gun found in Hatchett’s possession.

In relation to the July shooting, Hatchett has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and first-degree assault.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the casings found at the June shooting, which resulted in Reed’s death, were also fired from the same gun found in Hatchett’s possession. This revelation prompted officials to further examine casings found at other crime scenes throughout Minneapolis.

Surveillance footage from June 23, two days prior to Reed’s shooting, captured another incident where a man wearing blue shorts got out of a black Dodge Challenger and fired a gun on 11th Avenue South. The casings found at this scene were determined to have been discharged from the same gun found in Hatchett’s backpack. Additionally, Hatchett had posted pictures on Facebook showing him wearing the same blue shorts seen in the video footage.

When Hatchett was arrested for the July 23 homicide, he was again wearing the same blue shorts, according to court records.

Further evidence was uncovered during Hatchett’s arrest, as officers recovered his phone and found a picture of a 10 mm handgun taken on the morning of Reed’s murder. Police also discovered that Hatchett had viewed a news story about the incident one day after Reed’s death.

Hatchett is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail for multiple pending cases. The state has requested an arrest warrant for this case, allowing Hatchett to be arraigned and for bail and conditions of release to be readdressed.

Hatchett’s next court appearance for the June shooting is scheduled for Wednesday, while his next hearing for the July shooting is set for March 15.
