A female individual claiming to have connections with a Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) official in Mandaue City fell into the hands of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cebu City Field Unit on Tuesday morning, February 13, 2024, during an entrapment operation.
The suspect, identified as Amancia Pulvera Loreto, a 53-year-old widow residing in Purok Miracle Fruit, Barangay Yati, Liloan town, northern Cebu, was apprehended after allegedly soliciting money for her client’s document processing at BIR Mandaue.
Cindy Dico Bering, a 51-year-old resident of Purok Thunder Timpolok, Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City, reported the incident to CIDG 7 office. Bering claimed that Loreto guaranteed the release of her documents from BIR once she paid a sum of P50,000 in August 2023.
However, in an attempt to expedite the processing, Loreto demanded an additional payment of up to P100,000, prompting Bering to seek assistance from CIDG.
As a result, CIDG Cebu City Field Unit and the Subangdaku Police Station 2 swiftly organized an entrapment operation under CIDG’s Other Law Enforcement Activities (OLEA) initiative.
During the operation, two envelopes containing P500 boodle money were prepared as bait for the suspect. The CIDG team, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Randy Korret, strategically positioned themselves in a mall located in Barangay Subangdaku, where the suspect and victim had arranged to meet.
After Bering handed over the envelope containing the boodle money to Loreto, the CIDG promptly apprehended the suspect. The operation successfully resulted in the recovery of the boodle money, as well as two cellphones belonging to the suspect.
Following the incident, the CIDG is now in the process of preparing an estafa case against Amancia Pulvera Loreto. The authorities remain committed to upholding the law and protecting the public from fraudulent activities.
