RACINE, Wis. – A Racine man accused of a 2023 homicide at Rerun’s Lounge has been bound over for trial on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Abdullah Rashada, previously one of Wisconsin’s Most Wanted, has been charged with five felonies for allegedly shooting and killing 56-year-old Billy Petty.
The incident occurred on New Year’s Day 2023 when Petty and 66-year-old Avery “Rerun” Stewart, the bar’s owner, were fatally shot. However, Rashada is currently only charged in Petty’s death.
During the investigation, law enforcement authorities discovered a semi-automatic handgun near the victims and multiple spent bullet casings on the bar’s floor, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint further reveals that “high-quality” surveillance footage captured the altercation inside the bar, enabling the police to easily identify Rashada, the victims, and other individuals involved. Prosecutors stated that the video depicted Petty striking another man in the mouth with a handgun, which caused the gun to inadvertently discharge. Unfortunately, the bullet hit Stewart, who then collapsed.
Immediately after this initial shot, Rashada was observed near the front door intentionally firing a gun into the bar, striking Petty and causing him to fall to the ground. Despite efforts from bystanders to restrain him, Rashada forcefully re-entered the premises and fired two additional shots at Petty from close range. He subsequently fled from the scene.
