Accident – Death – Obituary News :

HOUSTON – The suspect involved in the Lakewood Church shooting put her family at risk on multiple occasions, according to statements made by the woman’s ex-mother-in-law during an interview with Corley Peel from KRPC 2. Moreover, the ex-mother-in-law shed light on the suspect’s mental health issues and the warning signs that were overlooked.

The incident, which took place at Lakewood Church on Sunday, left a 7-year-old child and a 57-year-old man injured.

The shooting suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno.

According to Houston police, Moreno entered the church with her 7-year-old son and opened fire in the hallway. Her actions were quickly halted by an off-duty HPD officer and a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent, who fatally shot her to protect the lives of those present.

While the 57-year-old man has been released from the hospital, the child is still fighting for his life.

In an exclusive interview, Corley Peel of KPRC 2 spoke with Rabbi Walli Carranza, the grandmother of the injured child, as well as Moreno’s ex-mother-in-law.

Carranza disclosed that Moreno had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and disappeared while pregnant, giving birth without the knowledge of the child’s father.

Allegedly, Moreno failed to take her medication during pregnancy, but she had previously shown willingness to undergo treatment.

Carranza revealed that Moreno falsely declared the child’s father as deceased on the birth certificate, a mistake that took the family several years to rectify.

According to records, Moreno also physically assaulted her husband and attempted to stab him. The grandmother further disclosed that Moreno kept the child on a feeding tube for several years, even though it was unnecessary.

Furthermore, an ongoing custody battle between Moreno and the child’s father’s family has been ongoing, but Carranza currently holds the power of attorney for the boy.

It is important to note that the 7-year-old child has special needs.
