Accident – Death – Obituary News : WILBRAHAM, Mass. – Wilbraham Police Officer Cameron Prosperi, who suffered a gunshot wound during a shooting incident on January 20th, has been discharged from the hospital. Prosperi was released on Tuesday, and officers from neighboring communities gathered to give him a warm welcome back to Wilbraham.

The shooting incident occurred when Wilbraham Police Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a resident threatening others inside a residence on Old Carriage Drive. Officers outside the house exchanged gunfire with a 53-year-old man identified as Michael Ortega. Unfortunately, Officer Cameron Prosperi was struck and sustained serious injuries during the exchange of gunfire.

Following the incident, Prosperi was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Although he is still recovering from his wounds, he is now able to continue his recovery at home.

The Wilbraham Police Department organized an escort for Officer Prosperi on Tuesday afternoon, with the assistance of surrounding communities such as Springfield, Ludlow, Monson, East Longmeadow, Chicopee, and State Police. The officers gathered to show their support and appreciation for Prosperi’s dedication and service.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face daily while protecting their communities. The Wilbraham Police Department and the surrounding communities are grateful for Officer Prosperi’s bravery and wish him a speedy and full recovery.
