A shocking incident has come to light in Northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar, where the Delhi Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife and burying her body in a field. The accused, identified as Vicky, was taken into custody on February 10, while his mother and brother were apprehended the following day. The police have revealed that the accused committed the heinous act after their child passed away from anaemia last year.
The disturbing discovery was made on February 8 when a group of children playing in the area heard the cries of a distressed dog trapped in a pit. As they tried to rescue the animal, they stumbled upon the wrapped body of a woman. Immediately, they alerted the police by making a PCR call.
According to the police, Vicky used to work part-time as a waiter in various hotels, and his wife was named Sapna. Investigations have revealed that Vicky and Sapna’s relationship deteriorated after their child’s death in September of last year. Blaming his wife for the tragedy, Vicky engaged in numerous verbal altercations with her until he strangled her on December 25.
Under the cover of darkness, at around 2 am on December 26, Vicky, accompanied by his juvenile brother and with the knowledge of their mother, wrapped Sapna’s body in a quilt. They then transported her remains to a field located just 100 meters away from their jhuggi (shanty) house. In order to avoid immediate detection, they buried her in a pre-dug pit and concealed it with mud and waste materials.
The investigation was triggered by a missing person’s report filed by the woman’s mother on January 25 at the Ashok Vihar Police Station. Multiple search teams were deployed to locate Vicky and his family. However, it was only when the children heard the distressed dog’s cries and discovered the woman’s body that the police were finally alerted.
This shocking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for increased awareness and support for victims of domestic violence. The Delhi Police are working diligently to gather evidence and ensure that the accused face appropriate legal consequences for their actions.
