In a tragic turn of events, the Ventura Fire Department swiftly responded to an early morning distress call at around 7:00 a.m. concerning an individual who was reported not breathing.

What initially appeared to be a routine emergency quickly escalated into a perilous ocean rescue operation as firefighters discovered a victim submerged underwater, according to the local police.

The timely response prompted the deployment of an expert ocean rescue swimmer, accompanied by state parks personnel, to conduct an extensive search and rescue mission.

Multiple agencies collaborated in a meticulous grid search of the ocean, with nine proficient ocean rescue swimmers actively engaged in the operation.

After 64 minutes of relentless efforts, the victim, identified as 32-year-old Niko Nakamura, was located.

Advanced life support measures were promptly initiated on the beach, and Nakamura was expeditiously transported to Community Memorial Hospital (CMH), where firefighters continued their dedicated lifesaving interventions.

Tragically, Nakamura was pronounced deceased at CMH, as confirmed by the local police. They are currently investigating the circumstances leading to this ocean incident.

Nakamura had been reported missing on Thursday, February 8, prior to this devastating event.
