Train Collision at Unprotected Rail Crossing in Rajshahi Kills Two
On February 12, 2024, a tragic accident occurred in Paba upazila of Rajshahi, resulting in the death of two individuals. The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Mofazzal, the driver of a locally-made three-wheeler, and Habib, the lone passenger. Gopal Karmaker, the officer-in-charge of General Railway Police Station of Rajshahi, confirmed their identities.
The incident took place around 4:00pm in the Mohonpur area when the Dhaka-bound Padma Express collided with the three-wheeler at an unprotected rail crossing. Both Mofazzal and Habib died on the spot as a result of the collision.
According to an eyewitness named Dulal, the three-wheeler was completely crushed due to the impact. He mentioned that Habib was transporting firewood in the cart at the time of the accident.
Prior to this incident, the rail crossing did not have any protection. However, two members of Ansar were recently deployed there for security purposes. Unfortunately, they were not present at the scene when the accident occurred, stated the police official.
The bodies of Mofazzal and Habib have been sent to Rahshahi Medical College morgue for autopsy. The police will file an unnatural death case in relation to this tragic event.
