Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Infant Found Abandoned and Freezing in the Hudson Valley: Mother Arrested

In a heart-wrenching incident, a newborn baby was discovered freezing and abandoned in the Hudson Valley. The Yonkers Police Department immediately launched a search for the 21-year-old mother, leading to her subsequent arrest.

The helpless baby girl, only a few days old, was found crying in the hallway of an apartment building on Chestnut Street in Yonkers. It was around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday when a compassionate individual stumbled upon the infant and quickly wrapped her in a warm blanket.

The baby was promptly taken to the hospital for evaluation, where she is reported to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, the Yonkers Police Department wasted no time in deploying their specialized units, including the Special Victims Unit, Major Case Squad, Crime Scene Unit, and Digital Forensics Unit, to investigate the incident. Hours of surveillance camera footage were reviewed, and numerous witnesses were interviewed to identify the mother and gather crucial information about the abandonment.

Tragically, it was discovered that the baby’s mother, 21-year-old Jaqueline Marleni Perez of Yonkers, had given birth to the child earlier that afternoon, around 3:30 p.m. She then dressed the baby in a t-shirt, wrapped her in a blanket, and callously left her in the hallway of 32 Chestnut Street at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The infant was fortunately found by a Good Samaritan just an hour later, averting a potential tragedy. The Yonkers Police Department wasted no time in locating Perez, who was subsequently arrested. She now faces charges of child abandonment, a felony offense.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano expressed his gratitude for the baby’s safety, stating, “The circumstances that occurred are heartbreaking and unfortunate, but we are thankful the baby is stable and safe. I commend the compassionate and swift actions of our Yonkers PD in finding the mother, exhibiting concern for her welfare after going through a traumatic and desperate ordeal. This is a poignant reminder that help, regardless of the situation, is available to all of us – don’t be afraid to reach out.”

In the midst of this distressing incident, it is crucial to remember that many other children across New York State are still missing. Any assistance or information the public can provide in finding these missing children would be invaluable.
