Accident – Death – Obituary News : HURON COUNTY, Ohio — Frederick Reer, a 40-year-old man who has been indicted on charges related to the murder of Amanda Dean, is scheduled to appear before a judge in Huron County Common Pleas Court today at 1 p.m. Reer, who is believed to be Dean’s boyfriend, was indicted last week on several felony charges, including murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.
The arraignment hearing is expected to provide more details about the case, and 3News will be following the story closely and providing updates as they become available.
According to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, Reer was arrested by agents with the attorney general’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation on Friday following his indictment. He was then transported to the Huron County jail, where he remains in custody.
The case dates back more than six years to July 2017 when Amanda Dean went missing in Collins, a town located just outside of Norwalk. Yost expressed his sympathy for Dean’s family, stating, “So many memories won’t include Amanda, as her killer robbed these children of a life with their mother. Her family deserves justice.”
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation took over the case in December 2022, and their involvement has been crucial in moving the investigation forward. In a 2020 interview with Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin, he revealed that the case initially started as a missing persons investigation. However, after speaking with a domestic violence shelter, it was discovered that Dean had been living there.
Sheriff Corbin explained that the shelter didn’t normally share such information but made an exception for the investigation. They assured him that Dean was safe and being cared for. However, Dean’s mother, Laura Tokar, has expressed doubts about her daughter willingly staying away from her family and children for such a long period.
Dean’s family has maintained their determination to find answers in her case. They held a press conference in January to keep the public informed and seek any possible leads or information that could help solve the mystery surrounding her disappearance.
As the legal proceedings continue for Frederick Reer, it is hoped that justice will be served for Amanda Dean and her grieving family. The arraignment hearing will shed more light on the evidence and charges against Reer, providing insight into the next steps in this ongoing investigation.
