Youth Identified as Chaitanya Kumar Goes Missing While Bathing in River at Siltiguda Dam

Rayagada: A 19-year-old student of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Institute of Technology (UGMIT) has gone missing after he went for a bath in the river at Siltiguda Dam in Rayagada district, Odisha. The student has been identified as Chaitanya Kumar, a resident of Saipriya Nagar in Rayagada.

Chaitanya had accompanied nine of his friends for a picnic at the dam on Sunday. While some of them were engrossed in playing cricket, Chaitanya decided to take a swim in the river. However, when his friends couldn’t find him later, they began searching for him in the water body but were unable to locate him.

Upon receiving the information, the local police and fire services immediately reached the spot and initiated search operations. More information regarding the incident is currently awaited.

Speaking to the media, Rayagada Tehsildar Priyadrashini Swain stated that a group of nine students had organized a feast at the dam. She said, “One of them went missing after he entered the waters for a swim. The rescue operation is underway, and we will involve ODRAF personnel as well. We will follow the necessary procedures once the boy is found.”

The fire personnel mentioned, “We were informed about the incident around 8 pm. Due to the darkness, rescue work was not feasible, so we commenced the operations at around 6 am today.”
