Mumbai/Pune, 12th February 2024 – In a heroic act of bravery and quick thinking, Assistant Police Inspector Balbhim Nanavare prevented the alleged kidnapping of an 8-year-old girl on the Sinhagad Express train while traveling from Mumbai to Pune. Nanavare, who recently relocated from Pune to Mumbai, noticed suspicious behavior by a young man, approximately 30 years old, who had boarded the train with the young girl.

Remaining incognito, Nanavare carefully observed their interactions and sensed that something was amiss. Despite the man and the girl appearing calm, their communication raised Nanavare’s concern as the man spoke in Hindi while the girl responded in Marathi.

To understand the situation better, Nanavare offered the girl a seat near him and engaged in conversation. The man claimed to be her father, but Nanavare noticed the girl’s expression indicating otherwise. Realizing the potential danger, Nanavare discreetly asked the girl for her mother’s mobile number. Pretending to check his own phone, he showed her a picture of himself in his police uniform, prompting her to inquire if he was a police officer, to which he confirmed.

Suspecting foul play, Nanavare managed to obtain the girl’s uncle’s contact details. He quickly took a selfie with her and shared it with the family. After confirming that she had been reported missing, Nanavare alerted both the Pune police control room and the railway police. With the assistance of fellow passengers, they were able to detain the man. The parents were directed to file a case at the Waliv police station in Vasai-Virar.

The suspect, identified as Dayanand Kumar Sharma, a 30-year-old resident of Vasai originally from Bihar, is currently in custody and facing charges of kidnapping. Sub-inspector Gurudas More from the Waliv police station is leading the investigation, aiming to uncover Sharma’s motive, which still remains unknown to the family. Nanavare handed over both the girl and the suspect to the police and continued his journey to Pune.

Swiftly capturing the moment with a selfie, Nanavare shared the photo with the concerned family members. The family confirmed that the girl was indeed missing, prompting Nanavare to take immediate action.

Without hesitation, Nanavare alerted both the Pune police control room and the railway police about the ongoing situation.
