Four individuals have been apprehended by the Jharkhand police in relation to the heinous murder of a 55-year-old woman in Palamu district, as confirmed by a senior police official on Sunday. The arrests took place on Saturday night and resulted in the seizure of two country-made firearms, a pistol, cartridges, three mobile phones, a motorcycle, and a car, all believed to be linked to the crime.
According to Medininagar SP Reeshma Rameshan, the tragic incident was rooted in an altercation that occurred two days prior, involving the victim’s younger son, Ritwik Paswan, and one of the accused, identified as Mehtab Khan. It is alleged that Mehtab orchestrated the murder of Namita Devi, the mother of Ritwik, as a retaliation against the altercation. However, SP Rameshan clarified that the motive behind the crime was not connected to any land dispute, dispelling earlier speculations.
The dreadful incident unfolded on February 7, when Namita Devi was fatally shot by assailants riding motorcycles near Sadique Manzil Chowk under Medininagar Town police station. Following the tragedy, an FIR was promptly filed by the victim’s elder son, Vicky Paswan, leading to the subsequent investigation and arrests.
The four suspects arrested in connection with the case have been identified as Bhaskar Pandey, also known as Monty (32), Ritesh Kumar, also known as Mama (30), Bablu Kumar (25), and Mehtab (27). The police believe that these individuals played significant roles in carrying out the murder plot.
Authorities are determined to bring justice to the grieving family and ensure that the perpetrators face the full extent of the law. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of further evidence and information related to the case.
