Accident – Death – Obituary News :

HERRIN, Ill. (KFVS) – A man from Mt. Vernon, Illinois, was apprehended and issued citations after Herrin police officers pursued a stolen vehicle in a high-speed chase.

On February 10th, around 12:40 p.m., the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies received information that Herrin Police Officers were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. Initially, Herrin Police attempted to stop the vehicle due to multiple traffic violations. However, as the vehicle failed to yield, it was simultaneously reported as stolen.

The stolen vehicle fled, leading law enforcement westbound on Herrin Road, then north on Cambria Road, and finally westbound on Illinois Route 13. As the chase progressed towards Spillway Road, deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Herrin Police tried to conduct a rolling roadblock, which slowed down the suspect’s vehicle to a near stop.

In a desperate attempt to escape, the suspect veered off the road, drove through the median, and continued for a short distance before turning southbound onto Spillway Road. Taking advantage of the slow speed of the vehicle, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office executed a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver.

The maneuver caused the stolen vehicle to lose traction and spin 180 degrees, coming to a halt in the middle of the roadway. Multiple patrol units quickly surrounded and blocked the vehicle. The driver, identified as Jake A. Gilmore, from Mt. Vernon, along with two passengers, were promptly removed from the car and detained.

Following the incident, the Herrin Police Department cited Gilmore for several offenses, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, and driving while his license was revoked.

Gilmore was then transported to the Williamson County Jail, where he was remanded into custody.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and authorities anticipate additional charges being filed. If you have any information regarding this or any other related investigations, please contact the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office at 618-997-6541.
