Details of the Crash

  • The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) announced that the northbound lanes of I-75 have reopened as of 7:40 p.m., but the southbound lanes remain closed for the time being.

Ownership and Investigation

The jet involved in the crash was owned by a charter company called Hop a Jet Worldwide Jet Charter. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has assigned a primary investigator to determine the cause of the crash. A preliminary report is expected to be released within the next 30 days.

Injuries and Damages

Two vehicles traveling south on I-75 were damaged as a result of the crash. Fortunately, only one driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The three females in the other vehicle were unharmed.

Identification of Victims and Survivors

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has released the names and identities of the passengers onboard the jet. The two individuals who sadly lost their lives have been tentatively identified as pilot Edward Daniel Murphy, 50, of Oakland Park, Florida, and second-in-command Ian Frederick Hofmann, 65, of Pompano Beach, Florida.

The survivors of the crash are crew member Sydney Ann Bosmans, 27, of Jupiter, Florida, and passengers Aaron Baker, 35, and Audra Green, 23, both from Columbus, Ohio. They have been taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

Closure of Interstate 75

Due to the crash, a large section of Interstate 75 in Collier County has been closed. Southbound traffic at mile marker 111 (Immokalee Road) and northbound traffic at mile marker 105 (Golden Gate Parkway) have been affected. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area until further notice.

Additional Information

The jet was traveling from Ohio and was scheduled to land in Naples before heading back to Fort Lauderdale. It was approximately 250 feet in the air when the crash occurred. The cause of the crash appears to be related to a loss of engine power, leading to an emergency landing attempt.

The Naples Airport Tower was in contact with the jet prior to the crash. The Naples Air Traffic Controllers have confirmed that the jet was owned by Hop-A-Jet Worldwide Jet Charter, a charter company that provides private plane services to individuals who book flights.
