Portland, Ore. (Coin) – Bob Moore, the founder of Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, passed away at his home on Saturday at the age of 94. Known for his passion for healthy eating and whole grain grinding, Moore built his company into a global food brand with over 200 products in more than 70 countries.
A Life Dedicated to Healthy Eating
Born on February 15, 1929, in Portland, Bob Moore grew up in California before eventually returning to his hometown. After running two gas stations, he ventured into the flour milling business. Passing on his first mill to his sons, Moore and his wife then moved to Milwaukee to pursue seminary studies.
However, fate took a different turn when Moore stumbled upon an old feed mill in Milwaukee. Inspired by his love for healthy eating and whole grains, he decided to establish Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods at the age of 48. This marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that would shape the landscape of the natural food industry.
A Global Food Brand and a Legacy
What started as a local venture quickly turned into a global phenomenon. Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods expanded its reach, offering over 200 products and becoming a trusted brand in over 70 countries. At the age of 81, Moore initiated an employee stock ownership plan for the company. Today, Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods is proudly owned by over 700 employees, each carrying forward Moore’s vision and commitment to quality.
