Jaipur: Pandit Laxman Bhatt Tailang, a renowned Dhrupad singer from Jaipur, has passed away after a long battle with illness. He was a prominent figure in the world of Dhrupad music and was slated to receive the prestigious Padma Shri award this year. However, he couldn’t attend the ceremony due to his deteriorating health.

Pandit Laxman Bhatt Tailang took his last breath on Saturday morning at the age of 93. He was admitted to the rarefied Durlabhji Hospital in Jaipur, where he was undergoing treatment for pneumonia and other health issues.

Madhu Bhatt Tailang, his daughter and a renowned Dhrupad vocalist and teacher, said, “For the past few days, my father’s health had been deteriorating. He was admitted to Durlabhji Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he breathed his last at 9 am on Saturday.” Pandit Laxman Bhatt Tailang dedicated his entire life to music, discussions on music, and imparting extensive musical training to his sons Ravi Shankar and daughters Shoba, Usha, Nisha, Madhu, Punam, and Arti.

Pandit Laxman Bhatt Tailang had a illustrious career as a music teacher at the Banasthali Vidyapith from 1950 to 1992 and at the Rajasthan Music Institute from 1991 to 1994. He also founded and directed the Rasmanjari Sangeetopasana Kendra in Jaipur in 1985 and the International Dhrupad-Dham Trust in Jaipur in 2001.
