Accident – Death – Obituary News :

ANDERSON CREEK, N.C. (WNCN) — In a devastating turn of events, a brave soldier from the esteemed 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Liberty lost his life in a high-speed, single-car collision in Harnett County on Saturday morning, as reported by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

According to authorities, the distressing incident came to light when Harnett County 911 received an alert from a mobile phone at approximately 4:16 a.m. The notification indicated that the crash had occurred on Overhills Road, situated about half a mile east of Bill Shaw Road and west of Anderson Creek School Road.

Responding swiftly to the distress call, troopers arrived at the scene to find a partially lodged 2018 Kia Stinger V8 in a tree. Initial investigations suggest that the vehicle was traveling at a staggering speed of approximately 100 miles per hour when it veered across the center line and careened off the left side of the road.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol stated that the driver’s side of the vehicle brushed against a tree, initiating a spin. The passenger side then collided head-on with another tree, causing the car to overturn and become partially wedged in a tree.

Despite being properly restrained with a seat belt, the driver was tragically ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Regrettably, he was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The deceased soldier has been identified as 25-year-old Nathan Whorton, who served valiantly in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Liberty. At the time of the incident, he was the sole occupant of the ill-fated car.

While awaiting the toxicology report from the medical examiner’s office, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol suspects that alcohol may have played a role in this tragic accident.
