Bill Brand Obituary – Cause of Death News : “Redondo Beach Mayor Loses Battle with Lung Cancer at 65”

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (CNS) — Redondo Beach Mayor Bill Brand has sadly passed away at the age of 65 from lung cancer, city officials announced.

Brand passed away on Friday evening, surrounded by his beloved family and friends, including his wife.

“He valiantly fought stage four lung cancer over the past four and a half years, surpassing all expectations. His remarkable resilience and determination allowed him to outlive any other diagnosed case in the United States,” stated a city statement released on Saturday. “This is a testament to his unwavering will to live, his indomitable spirit, and his deep love for the community he dedicated his life to.”

Brand was widely respected for his commitment to open-space policies and environmental protection. Originally from Texas, he relocated to the South Bay area in 1966 and later founded the South Bay Parkland Conservancy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving natural spaces.

Having served two terms on the city council, Brand was elected as the mayor of Redondo Beach in 2017 and successfully won re-election four years later. Despite battling cancer, he continued to lead and serve the community.

Details regarding private and public ceremonies to honor Brand’s life will be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, his wife and family kindly request donations to be made to the South Bay Parkland Conservancy or the Cancer Support Community South Bay in memory of Brand.

As a mark of respect, flags at City Hall will be flown at half-staff.
