Henry Lee Fambrough, Last Surviving Founding Member of The Spinners, Passes Away at 85
Henry Lee Fambrough, the final surviving founding member of the iconic R&B group The Spinners, has sadly passed away at the age of 85. The news of Fambrough’s death was confirmed by the band’s representative, Tanisha Lynn Jackson.
Fambrough, known for his mesmerizing baritone vocals and distinctive handlebar mustache, co-founded The Spinners in 1954 alongside Pervis Jackson, Billy Henderson, Bobby Smith, and C.P. Spencer. Together, they created enduring hits such as “I Don’t Want To Lose You,” “Ghetto Child,” and “Just As Long As We Have Love.”
A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction
Just a few months before his passing, Fambrough had the honor of witnessing The Spinners’ induction into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November. The group was celebrated during a memorable ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where they were paid tribute by the legendary New Edition, who performed a medley of their timeless tunes.
A Farewell to a Musical Legend
A funeral service for Henry Lee Fambrough has been scheduled for Saturday, February 17, at the St. Stephen AME Church in Detroit, Michigan. Prior to the funeral, there will be a public viewing held on Friday, February 16, allowing fans and loved ones to pay their final respects to the late musician.
Henry Lee Fambrough’s contribution to the world of music, both as a founding member of The Spinners and through his unforgettable baritone vocals, will forever be remembered and cherished. His impact on R&B and soul music will continue to inspire generations to come.
