Edward McManimon, the co-founder of Roseland-based law firm McManimon, Scotland & Baumann LLC, passed away on February 2nd at the age of 77. The New Jersey resident died at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness, according to his obituary.

Born in Ewing, McManimon graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1964 before earning an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1968. He went on to obtain a law degree from George University Law Center in 1971 and began his legal career as a law secretary for U.S. District Court Judge George Barlow in Trenton.

Following his judicial clerkship, McManimon joined the law firm that now bears his name and dedicated over half a century to building a distinguished career. McManimon, Scotland & Baumann is renowned for its ability to bridge the gap between the public and private sectors to achieve groundbreaking projects. The firm represents numerous municipalities, school boards, counties, state agencies, and Fortune 500 companies, offering expertise in areas such as public finance, redevelopment, land use, litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and bankruptcy. Throughout his career, McManimon received several accolades, including the New Jersey Law Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the New Jersey League of Municipalities’ Distinguished Public Service Award. He was also honored by Georgetown University with the John Carroll Award and William Gaston Award, the university’s highest alumni recognitions. McManimon served as chairman of the Local Government Law Section of the New Jersey Bar Association and was a member of the Institute of Municipal Attorneys. Additionally, he acted as special counsel to the League of Municipalities, focusing on public finance and redevelopment matters.

In a post on its website commemorating McManimon’s passing, McManimon, Scotland & Baumann praised his impact on the legal community and Georgetown University. Edward McManimon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Christina, two children, three grandchildren, eight siblings, a sister-in-law, and more than 20 nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on February 8th from 4-8 p.m. and on February 9th from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Pennington. A service will follow on February 9th at 11 a.m., also at St. James.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (72 Escher St., Trenton).
