HAMDEN, CT — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of former Hamden Mayor Peter F. Villano. Villano, who served as the mayor from 1981 to 1985, passed away on Sunday, February 4, at the remarkable age of 100.

A Life of Public Service

Peter F. Villano dedicated his life to serving the people of Hamden. In addition to his two terms as mayor, he also represented Hamden’s 91st District as the State Representative for an impressive 20 years. His commitment to public service was unwavering, and he retired from his position in 2012 at the age of 89.

A Lasting Tribute

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, Hamden named the park at 260 Mill Rock Rd. after Peter Villano. The park, known as Villano Park and Splash Pad, was a testament to his dedication and service to the community. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett expressed her condolences in a heartfelt Facebook post, acknowledging Villano’s long and distinguished career as a public servant, as well as his service as a World War II Navy veteran.

A Life Well-Lived

Peter F. Villano’s life was filled with accomplishments and milestones. Born on January 26, 1924, in New Haven, he was the beloved husband of Florence Roome Villano. He was a loving father to Victoria Villano of North Haven, Peter Villano Jr. of East Haven, and David Villano of Miami, FL. He was also a step-father to Lisa Reisner of Merrick, Long Island.

Throughout his life, Peter was a cherished grandfather to Wesley and Ellie Villano. He was preceded in death by his daughter Catherine Villano, a sister Annette Villano, and brothers Vincent, Louis, Angelo, Joseph, Pasquale, and Salvatore Villano.

Dedicated to the Community

Peter Villano’s passion for public service spanned over 60 years, during which he held various positions in government at every level. He served as a congressional aide to Congressman Robert N. Giaimo and was elected Mayor of Hamden for two terms. His tireless dedication to the people of Hamden was evident in his 20-year tenure as the State Representative for the 91st District.

Farewell and Funeral Arrangements

The funeral service for Peter F. Villano will be held at St. Rita Church, following a service at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, located at 3105 Whitney Ave. in Hamden. The funeral procession will commence at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friends and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
