Hinton Battle, a talented and versatile dancer, actor, and choreographer, has passed away. The cause of his death is currently unknown. Battle’s career spanned decades and included numerous achievements and accolades.

Born on November 29, 1956, in Neubrücke, West Germany, Battle grew up in a family with a deep love for the arts. His mother, unable to afford dance lessons herself, enrolled Battle and his two sisters in dance classes from a young age. It quickly became apparent that Battle had a natural talent for singing and dancing, and he pursued his passion with dedication.

At the age of 13, Battle earned a scholarship to George Balanchine’s School of American Ballet in Manhattan. After a few years in New York, he returned to Washington, where he auditioned for the Broadway musical “The Wiz” at the suggestion of his sister Lettie, who also had a role in the show.

Battle’s breakthrough came when he joined the cast of “The Wiz” as the Scarecrow. He initially took over the role temporarily after the original actor fell ill during a pre-Broadway tryout. However, Battle’s performance was so impressive that he was asked to stay on permanently. His portrayal of the Scarecrow earned him critical acclaim, and the show went on to win seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Following his success in “The Wiz,” Battle continued to make a name for himself in the world of musical theater. He appeared in four Broadway shows between 1981 and 1991,.
