In the early hours of Sunday morning, the world was met with the devastating news of the passing of Namibian President Hage Geingob. With profound sadness, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, the Namibian people, and government during this difficult time.

H.E. Dr. Hage Geingob was a remarkable leader, known for his unwavering dedication and commitment to the people of Namibia. Born on August 3, 1941, in Otjiwarongo, Namibia, Geingob began his journey towards greatness at an early age. He obtained his education at the prestigious University of Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Later, he pursued his Master’s degree in International Relations and Journalism at Fordham University in the United States.

Geingob’s illustrious career in public service began in the 1960s when he joined the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), a political movement fighting for the liberation and independence of Namibia. He played a vital role in the struggle for freedom, serving as SWAPO’s representative to the United Nations and as the organization’s Secretary for Information and Publicity. Geingob’s dedication and determination were instrumental in Namibia’s eventual independence in 1990.

Following independence, Geingob continued to serve his beloved country in various capacities. He held positions such as Prime Minister, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Minister of Housing and Rural Development. Finally, in 2015, he was elected as the third President of Namibia, a position he held until his untimely passing.

Under Geingob’s leadership, Namibia experienced significant progress and development. He implemented policies aimed at reducing income inequality, improving education, and fostering economic growth. Geingob was a visionary leader who recognized the importance of sustainable development and environmental conservation. He spearheaded initiatives to protect Namibia’s natural resources and promote ecotourism, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.

Throughout his life, Geingob remained committed to promoting peace and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. He was a strong voice against apartheid and played an integral role in the negotiation process that led to the end of apartheid in South Africa.

As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary leader, we are reminded of Geingob’s immense legacy. His unwavering dedication to the Namibian people and his tireless efforts to build a better future will forever be remembered. President Geingob’s impact extended far beyond the borders of Namibia, and his influence will continue to inspire leaders around the world.

Although the cause of President Hage Geingob’s passing remains unknown, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
