Logan Hunter Remembered with Pride as London Knights Triumph

The London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League honored the memory of their former player, Logan Hunter, with a stunning performance this weekend. Despite the heavy hearts caused by Hunter’s untimely passing at the age of 39 from pancreatic cancer, the team showed remarkable resilience and determination, winning all three games they played.

Michael Simpson, the goaltender for the London Knights, spoke on behalf of the team, stating, “The rest of the season is devoted to him. We want to win for Logan and his family. We know our coaches are grieving, and it motivates us to push harder.” The Knights’ victory in Guelph on Sunday, with a score of 4-3, demonstrated their commitment to honoring Hunter’s memory.

Logan Hunter, a native of Oil Springs, played for the London Knights from 2000 to 2004 before concluding his junior career with the Peterborough Petes in 2004-05. Known for his blue-collar work ethic, Hunter’s dedication to the game and physicality left a lasting impact on the Knights organization. He scored 17 goals during the 2002-03 season and consistently accumulated over 100 penalty minutes each year.

Mark Hunter, the Knights’ General Manager, spoke fondly of Logan, saying, “He was a passionate young man who loved his family, hockey, his wife, and kids. It’s been tough. You don’t expect something like this. It’s terrible. It’s difficult for Dale, but Ricky and Dylan grew up with Logan, playing hockey together for 15 years.”

Logan Hunter’s impact extended beyond the hockey rink. He was a lifelong farmer, a supervisor at Hydro One, a coach, a loving husband to Alicia, and a devoted father to Maddox, Millar, and Merrick. His father, Ron, led the Hunter family’s involvement in junior hockey, and his sister, Meghan, now serves as an assistant GM with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Sam Dickinson, a defenseman for the London Knights, expressed the team’s solidarity, stating, “We’re a family here, including the coaches, and we’re heartbroken for them. We won this week for Logan and the Hunter family.”

A celebration of Logan Hunter’s life will be held at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood community complex in Alvinston on Wednesday from 1-4 p.m.
