Former Canyon Theatre Guild President and former “Robotech” voice actor Greg Finley passed away on February 1 at the age of 76, as announced by his family on Monday.

Greg Finley, born on May 8, 1947, in Los Angeles, was the son of Venice and Larry Finley. His father was a television and radio personality and a cousin to writer and producer Rod Serling. Greg began his career in Hollywood as an on-camera actor in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

After graduating from Beverly Hills High School in 1965, Finley joined the Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain and served eighteen months in the Special Forces in Vietnam. Following his military service, he married a widow with four daughters and settled in northern California, supporting his family by selling automobiles. In 1970, he welcomed his son Guy into the world. However, his marriage ended in 1975, leading him to return to Southern California to pursue his acting dreams.

In 1982, Greg started his voice-over career as a writer, director, and lead character on the syndicated animated television series, “Robotech.” Over the next twenty-five years, he wrote numerous news reports, sports broadcasts, and weather spots for group ADR, performing them in countless TV shows and films.

In 1982, Greg remarried Patricia Dinnell Middleton, also known as Patti Finley, who was the love of his life and the former wife of Broadway star Ray Middleton. The couple met while doing dinner theater in Granada Hills. They welcomed their son Garrett in 1983. In the mid-1990s, they moved to Santa Clarita, where they devoted themselves to their passion for Community Theater.

Greg and Patti actively participated in the Canyon Theatre Guild, serving as past board members and President. Together, they produced, directed, and acted in numerous musicals, plays, workshops, and fundraisers for the community. Their contributions were commemorated with statues in the foyer of the Canyon Theater in downtown Newhall.

In 2015, Greg and Patti relocated to Boise, ID, to be closer to their sons and grandchildren. They immediately immersed themselves in the local community theater scene, continuing to direct, act, mentor, and inspire artists in the Treasure Valley.

Although he was professionally retired, Greg occasionally worked as a voice-over actor in Hollywood, maintaining connections with his co-workers, colleagues, and lifelong friends in the Los Angeles area.

Greg is survived by his three brothers, six children, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held in Boise and Los Angeles in early Spring. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund.

In conclusion, Greg Finley, the former Canyon Theatre Guild President and “Robotech” voice actor, passed away at the age of 76. He had a successful career in Hollywood and made significant contributions to the community theater scene. He will be remembered for his talent, dedication, and love for the arts..
