Steve Brown, the talented British composer behind the music heard on many beloved comedy productions, has sadly passed away at the age of 66. The cause of his death is currently unknown.

A Multi-Talented Musician and Composer

Although many TV viewers may remember him as bandleader Glenn Ponder from the popular sitcom Knowing Me, Knowing You… With Alan Partridge, Brown’s contributions to the entertainment industry went far beyond his on-screen appearances. He primarily worked behind-the-scenes on various TV, radio, and live comedy shows as a composer, lyricist, arranger, and record producer.

Throughout his career, Brown had the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed comedians such as Steve Coogan, Lenny Henry, Lee Mack, Ant & Dec, Rory Bremner, and Harry Hill, to name just a few. He worked closely with Hill on several projects, including UK tours and providing all music for shows like TV Burp, The All New Harry Hill Show, Alien Fun Capsule, and Tea Time. Hill himself once referred to Brown as “the best kept secret in showbiz.”

Brown’s extensive list of TV composing credits includes popular sitcoms like Not Going Out, The Goes Wrong Show, and Harry Hill’s Lonely Island. He also contributed to formats such as Fantasy Football, Dead Ringers, and The Sketch Show. Additionally, Brown’s personal life was marked by love and creativity. He had two sons, stand-up comedian Alfie Brown and musician Lenny Brown, from his first marriage to Dead Ringers star Jan Ravens. In 2010, he remarried to actor Deborah Cornelius.
